The 2011 Giving Challenge has begun! The two Duke departments with the highest percentage of employee participation in this Fall’s campaign – one from the university, one from the health system – will win a free lunch celebration for department staff and faculty.

The Giving Challenge is part of our effort to increase employee participation in this year’s Doing Good in the Neighborhood campaign. Last year, 935 Duke University and Duke University Health System employees gave nearly  $590,000 to local schools, neighborhoods and non-profits through Doing Good in the Neighborhood. The goal for the 2011-12 campaign is to increase participation to 1,289 employees – about 5 percent of Duke’s workforce. That would mean 354 new donors who support the campaign at whatever level they can afford.

We will communicate with departments throughout the campaign to share up-to-date information about their participation levels, along with how they’re stacking up against the competition. Please encourage your colleagues to donate, and browse this site to learn more about how your gifts make a difference in Durham and the region!
