Supporting Our Neighborhoods

Contributions support programs designed to increase home ownership, restore economic vitality and improve safety in the 12 communities near Duke’s campus, and to assist partner nonprofits in building capacity. The organizations supported through employee contributions are:

Bringing Books to Children — 2009-10
Duke employee contributions supported the Bringing Books to Children project, through which all children in the Durham and Orange County Head Start programs were provided with books. The Children's Environmental Health Initiative, out of the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, is a research, education and outreach program committed to fostering environments where all children can prosper.

Doing Good in the Neighborhood funds support projects as needs arise in Northwest Central Durham neighborhoods. Past funded projects have included community clean-up days, neighborhood food drives, programming for Walltown youth, and a summer jobs program for teenagers in Crest Street.
