The campaign’s Community Care Fund awarded a grant to support the first Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest. This project will offer local poetry workshops and encourage Durham’s young people to create original pieces of poetry that reflect on the following:
- Human rights, civil rights, social change, community, or justice
- Pauli Murray, a Durham native and renowned poet, author, activist, lawyer and priest
- African American and women’s history
- Making Durham and the world a better place
The Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest is coordinated by the Pauli Murray Project, which works to promote human rights activism in Durham and to celebrate the city’s history of activism.
