Lincoln Community Health Center (LCHC) is the local leader in providing accessible, affordable, high-quality outpatient health care to the medically underserved. LCHC and its partners strive for 100% access and zero health disparities in the Durham community.
Campaign funding supports LCHC’s Healthcare for the Homeless Clinic, allowing staff to cover the costs of co-pays, bus transportation, toiletries, reading glasses, public housing applications and other necessities for its clients. One story of how the campaign’s funding was put to use:
“A 68-year-old client was discharged from a local hospital to homelesness after a heart attack. He had insurance (Medicare) but no funds for the copay ($38). In addition, he had difficulty reading his paperwork due to no reading glasses. We provided him with the medication co-pays, we gave him a bus ticket to get to the pharmacy, he got reading glasses so he can read the newspaper, and he was given a hygiene kit. He returned from the pharmacy with his pills and we filled a medicine box we’d purchased through the grant so that he can easily take his medications. He left our clinic, healthier, happier, and more confident about his future thanks to these funds.”
