The Neighborhoods category supports 12 partner neighborhoods surrounding Duke campus with a focus on affordable housing, educational achievement, youth outreach, neighborhood safety, and quality health care.
Duke’s 12 partner neighborhoods are Burch Avenue, Crest Street, Lakewood Park, Lyon Park, Morehead Hill, Old West Durham, Trinity Heights, Trinity Park, Tuscaloosa-Lakewood, Walltown, Watts Hospital-Hillandale, and West End.
The university’s formal engagement with Durham neighborhoods began in 1996 with the creation of the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership (DDNP). The work of the DDNP is driven by community voices, and the DDNP acts as a partner and advocate in achieving community goals. Gifts made to the Neighborhoods category support this important work.
