DGIN recently funded these programs:
Outside Classroom – An Outside Classroom Edible Garden was established to encourage hands-on learning about the environment, sustainability, and understanding where food comes from and how it is grown.
Magnet Schools of America Membership – Being a part of this learning community allowed the school to have access to professional development opportunities, to participate in a national awards program for Montessori schools, and receive technical assistance.
Arts Methods Workshop Field Study – Staff from the Marian Cheek Jackson Center in Chapel Hill conducted a workshop for students on oral history as one of many means for historians to gather information. They brought in community partners who met with small groups of students to share some of their own stories.
LMMS Magnet Fair – Purchased all staff T-shirts to show unity during the fair as well as throughout the school year.
Enlaces – This strengths-based program worked to support the success of Latino students and to build parent leadership by fostering relationships and communication among youth, parents and schools; addressing community issues through curriculum-based workshops; and connecting families to school and community resources. Learn about Enlaces from the perspective of a recently graduated Durham senior.
