DGIN recently funded these projects:
Planting Seeds of Success: Every student and staff member received a school shirt with “Lakewood University” printed in bold Gothic lettering. Not only did the shirt represent unity and team spirit, but it also served to introduce the word “University” as a part of everyday language at home and school.
Headphones: Every student in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade was given a pair of personal headphones for use during his or her computer work. This allowed students to complete their work with confidence knowing they would have their own pair each time an assignment was given. Students were especially thrilled when they found out they got to keep the headphones following the school year.
Laptop Carts: The superintendent of Durham Public Schools generously gifted Lakewood sixty laptops to ensure they had a complete set for use across all grades. Lakewood purchased secure laptop carts to keep them organized and charged to be used for years to come.
End-of-Grade (EOG) Pep Rally and Incentives: As a way to encourage students to perform to the best of their abilities for the EOG, the school held a Pep Rally to energize students with music and words of encouragement by former DPS graduates! Students were also incentivized with the prospect of winning a bike in a raffle if they passed or made growth on the test.
Capturing Kid’s Hearts Administrator Training: The Principal and Assistant Principal attended a Leadership Blueprint Conference as a part of the schools Capturing Kid’s Heart staff training in August of 2018. DGIN funds supported travel and training costs.
Summer Secretary Support: A school secretary was hired over the summer to support teacher and student profile organization for the upcoming 2018-19 school year.
