DGIN recently funded these programs:
Afterschool Reading Academy/Great Reader – Provides 20 weeks of engaging afterschool literacy support from trained teachers and Duke tutors to first- and second-grade students reading behind grade level. The program goal is for each student to reach reading proficiency by the end of their third-grade year.
Stepping Stones – Rising kindergarten students with little or no preschool experience attend this school-based program. They meet their teachers, practice school routines, and learn social and behavioral skills to get them ready for the first day of school. By the end of the program, students demonstrate improvement in their school readiness skills and their families are better acquainted with their school and the district.
