About: The Durham Literacy Center empowers Durham County residents who want to improve their lives and the lives of their families by improving their literacy skills. The organization provides educational services for those most in need: adults and out-of-school youth who need basic literacy and English language, computer, health, financial literacy, and job readiness skills.
2016-17 DGIN funding covered expenses related to program coordination and learning materials for the Youth English Language and Job Readiness Initiative. Funds went specifically toward support staff (AmeriCorps and program associate), volunteer recruitment and training, instructional resources and materials, and costs associated with facilitating guest speakers and workshops.
