About: Kidzu Children’s Museum is an educational museum for children and families that opened in March 2006 and is currently located in University Place, Chapel Hill. The mission is to inspire children and the adults in their lives to learn through creative and purposeful play. With focus on the arts, STEM/STEAM, health and wellness and emerging literacy, Kidzu offers hands-on exhibits and interactive, interdisciplinary programs designed to foster creativity, 21st century skills and a love of learning. Kidzu provides outreach to underserved children through a range of free programs for schools and families. Kidzu serves 100,000 visitors each year onsite and thousands more at offsite outreach.
2017-18 DGIN funding will help support Adaptive Playdates and Adaptive Parent Night Out evenings. The expenses the grant will cover include staff support, expert program support, program materials, marketing and overhead costs. Kidzu partners with the Town of Chapel Hill adaptive recreational department to market the playdates to the families in need. This project will focus on serving the families with children with special needs living in public housing communities in Chapel Hill and who are in dire need of enrichment and support services.
