DGIN recently funded these programs:
Before School Tutoring Program – Third- through fifth-grade students who are reading below grade level participate in before-school, teacher-led small groups two days a week.
Afterschool Reading Academy – Provides 20 weeks of engaging afterschool literacy support from trained teachers and Duke tutors to first- and second-grade students reading behind grade level. The program goal is for each of those students to reach reading proficiency by the end of their third-grade year.
Stepping Stones – Rising kindergarten students with little or no pre-school experience attend this school-based program. They meet their teachers, practice school routines, and learn social and behavioral skills to get them ready for the first day of school. By the end of the program, students demonstrate improvement in their school readiness skills and their families are better acquainted with their school and the district.
Rolling Stones – An extension of Stepping Stones aimed at improving academic achievement of rising first-grade students. The program features teacher-created curriculum in all content areas with a particular focus on literacy. The ultimate goal of the program is to instill a love of learning and help students achieve grade-level performance.
