About: Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) brings students and farmworkers together to learn about each other’s lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions working for social change. Since its founding in 1992, SAF has engaged thousands of students in the farmworker movement, while emphasizing the leadership development of Latino students from farmworker families. SAF’s origins can be traced back to the 1970s, when a group of Duke students began documenting conditions in N.C. migrant labor camps.
2017-18 DGIN funding will help cover the cost of travel and scholarships for students in the Solidaridad internship program, in which college students/recent college graduates/DREAMers spend the year interning at Student Action with Farmworkers’ office learning about the farmworker justice movement and gaining nonprofit leadership skills.
