About: Urban Ministries of Durham connects with the community to end homelessness and fight poverty by offering food, shelter and a future to neighbors in need. The organization helps more than 6,000 people each year, 850 of whom are homeless men, women and children staying in Urban Ministries’ emergency shelter.
2016-17 DGIN funding helped purchase food to supplement what is donated for breakfast and lunch. During the work week, bagged lunches are distributed during breakfast hours, and funding contributed toward the cost of the items for the bagged lunches, including brown paper lunch bags and plastic sandwich bags.
